Personalization of furniture

The last time we traveled to Asia we had a pleasant conversation with a Dutch guy who designs furniture. He likes to visit people who are looking for furniture with a personal touch. Sitting at a kitchen table he discusses the material and form of a new closet. He explained that people show examples published at magazines or come up with photos of furniture they saw at the homes of relatives. What can we learn form this story?

Of course millions of people buy their furniture at IKEA. However, there a lot of consumers who like to personalize the items they use at home. They are proud to be involved in the design process. Affordable methods like rapid prototyping, digital photography and 3D printing will help consumers and businesses to realize their dreams and ideas.

"On speaking terms"

For years a phrase book was one of our best companions at our trips to a foreign country. Did you ever try to express yourself in Mandarin or Swahili? Why not using a "speaking phrase book" on your mobile phone? You select a phrase or a word and your mobile phone not only displays the translation in the local language but also pronounces the phrase in the specific language. Sotopia concepts develops applications like "speaking phrase books" using Flash Lite technology. We think it's just a small start in a highly potential market for mobile solutions. Which mobile application do you want to develop tomorrow?
